Change....it's a scary word for most people, and though it's human nature to resist change, without it we become stale and outdated.  Over the past year at TrainingPeaks.com, we've been making changes of our own.  Some of these changes you have seen, and some are yet to be discovered.  We're here to help you get comfortable with the changes, to make the transition from our legacy system to the new interface smooth, easy, and hopefully even a bit exciting.

"Top 15 Transition Tips for Professional Edition Users"

  1. Please note, the new interface Calendar has Drag-and-Drop functionality, allowing you to drag and drop from your workout libraries, from different days on the calendar, even from one client calendar to another.

  2. New features are not backwards-compatible, our new interface has many features that were never available in the legacy system.  These features include:
    • Drag and Drop workout and meal planning
    • Copy and paste workouts and meals between clients
    • Dual calendars
    • Build workouts and meals on the same calendar
    • Basic Accounts (including the Unlimited Basic Client feature)
    • Structured Workouts (i.e. Rep/Set/Weight)
    • Videos attached to workouts (actually, all media associated with planned workouts)
    • Routes (with Route History Report and Public directory)
    • Various Graphing Pods: mean max power, speed, cadence. power, speed, cadence, pace distributions
    • Spreadsheet View
    • Workout Libraries
    • Facebook and Twitter Sharing
    • Nutrition Shopping List

  3. The "Short Description" area of a workout in the legacy platform is now the workout "Title".  Athletes will see the Title, so it's now important to change your Workout Short Descriptions to be Titles.  This will align the functionality between both interfaces so that your clients will not be confused with coded or cryptic Workout Titles.

  4. The "Joe Friel" collection of workouts are still available.  To access these workouts, go to the Training section, then select "Workout (Classic)" from the Template drop-down box.  If they still do not show up, go to "Options" and make sure they are selected under the Exercise Groups filter.

  5. The workouts you created in Classic mode will be accessible in the new version.  To see them, go to the "Workout (Classic)" templates within the Training section (see #4 above).  Your workouts will be listed here.  This is also where you can convert a Classic workout to be a Structured Workout.

  6. Clients can no longer see the coach's workout library as they once were able to in an earlier version of the new interface.  We reverted back to the way the old interface behaved and clients do not see the coach's library.  Additionally, a coach-paid premium account will not be able to see the Joe Friel workouts.  A self-paid premium account will be able to see the Joe Friel workouts.  But neither of them will be able to see your workout library.

  7. The Calendar is very customizable. If you do not like the way your calendar looks and how the information is shown when you first log in, you can change those settings by clicking the "my settings" link in the upper-right corner of your screen. This will bring up a box that allows you to change multiple different settings.  Use the "View" and "Workout Labels" tabs to create the look and feel you want.  These settings will carry over to the next time you log into your account.

  8. There is no more "OR" checkbox for a workout. If you want to give a client the option of one workout or another, simply add both workouts to a given day, and mention in comments that they can choose between them. To make it more clear, you can put the "or" text in the workout title when you add it.

  9. ATP, Virtual Coach, and Race Reports are not yet available in the new interface. They are under construction and will be available in the near future.  Until that point, they will continue to be available in the legacy mode.

  10. Desktop Companion is still supported, but cannot be used with the Basic Client feature or Structure Workout features.

  11. The "Breakthrough Workout" label is available through the Spreadsheet view.  To access it, click on the "BT" icon listed for each workout.

  12. HTML is no longer supported in workouts.  Howerver, if you put in a straight URL (i.e. www.something.com) it will come through as a link in the emails.

  13. The chronological listing of workouts is based on the workout start time.  To specify the order, you need to either set a specific start time to the workout, or go to the "week" view of the calendar and drag-and-drop the workouts to the correct order.

  14. Copying workouts between clients has been made as simple as copy/paste.  Simply select workouts/meals on one client's calendar, highlight the date range you are interested in, then click "copy" on the pop-up menu that appears. Now, select the next client from your People list, click 'load' to load their calendar, click on the day you want to paste the workouts, and click "paste items".  You can shift dates simultaneously, and you can copy up to 6 weeks of workouts and meals at a time.  You can also open 2 calendar's side by side and copy/paste between them.

  15. Professionals and Premium level clients can access their accounts on smart phones through our Mobile Interface   www.trainingpeaks.com/m   For more on the Mobile Interface, please see: http://blog.trainingpeaks.com/2009/07/trainingpeaks-mobile-check-it-out.html
