Threshold Notifications

Threshold Notification feature is available to both free Basic and paid Premium TrainingPeaks.com account subscribers, and provides information that allows users to keep thier data accurate based on known calculations.

I got a Threshold Notification Email. Why?

Once an indication for a possibly changed threshold (increase or decrease) is detected, a notification will be sent via email based on your Account Settings>Account>Threshold Notification Settings

  • Off: do not allow any notifications or updates for changes in thresholds
  • Notify Only: notify me when my threshold has changed
  • Notify and auto apply: notify me when my threshold has changed and automatically apply the suggestions
  • Coaches will receive Threshold Notification emails regarding their Basic and Premium athletes
    • Premium coached athletes will not receive notification emails; only the coach will
    • Basic coached athletes and coaches will receive notification emails
    • Coaches can manage these email settings in the athlete's User's Settings within their coach account

What is the Threshold Notification feature?

  • TrainingPeaks detects when you upload Activity Files that contain data which indicate if any of your thresholds have changed. This is important as many advanced analysis metrics are based off of thresholds.

How does the Threshold Notification feature work?

On upload of Activity Files, TrainingPeaks will check for indications of a changed threshold. TrainingPeaks considers changes in threshold based on if Heart Rate (HR), Power (PW), and/or Pace (PA) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 20 min, is greater than your currently set threshold.

  • Cycling with powermeter:
    • If your Power (PW) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 20 min, is greater than your current power threshold for sport type Bike, this indicates there maybe an increase in your Bike Power threshold
      • The suggested threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
    • If your Power (PW) for 90% of Peak 60min, or 85% of Peak 20min, is less than your current threshold for the last 6 months, this indicates there maybe a decrease in your Bike Power threshold
      • The suggested new threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
  • Cycling with heart rate monitor only
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 30 min, is greater than your current heart rate threshold for sport type Bike,  this indicates there maybe an increase in your Bike Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for 95% of Peak 60min, or 90% of Peak 20min, is less than your current threshold for the last 6 months , this indicates there maybe a decrease in your Bike Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested new threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
  • Running with pace (GPS or foot pod)
    • If your Peak Pace (PA) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 30 min, is greater than your current pace threshold for sport type Run,  this indicates there maybe an increase in your Run Pace threshold
      • The suggested threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
    • If your Peak Pace (PA) for 95% of Peak 60min, or 90% of Peak 20min, is less than threshold for last 3 months, this indicates there maybe a decrease in your Run Pace threshold
      • The suggested new threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
  • Running with heart rate
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 30 min, is greater than your current heart rate threshold for sport type Run,  this indicates there maybe an increase in your Run Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for 95% of Peak 60min, or 90% of Peak 20min, is less than your current threshold for the last 6 months , this indicates there maybe a decrease in your Run Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested new threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
  • Swimming with heart rate monitor only
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for Peak 60 min, or 95% of Peak 30 min, is greater than your current heart rate threshold for sport type Swim,  this indicates there maybe an increase in your Swim Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min
    • If your Peak Heart Rate (HR) for 95% of Peak 60min, or 90% of Peak 20min, is less than your current threshold for the last 6 months , this indicates there maybe a decrease in your Swim Heart Rate threshold
      • The suggested new threshold is the same as the greatest value for Peak 60min or 95% of Peak 20min

What About my Zones?

  • Since your Power, Heart Rate, and Pace Zones are calculated based off your threshold number, TrainingPeaks recalculates these zones based on the new threshold(s) if we can determine the zone methodolgy used
    • If no zone calculation methodology is detected, we do not modify zones and only modify threshold(s)
